India’s Ministry of Mines has launched its 7th tranche of critical and strategic mineral block auctions, offering 19 blocks across multiple states, as the government pushes to accelerate post-auction execution. Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal flagged that 85% of the 592 blocks auctioned over the past decade are still not operational, with only 82 producing output, calling for self-certification-based approvals and capped premiums to move faster from auction to production.

Thirty-nine of 42 high-voltage electrical workers across BHP’s Pilbara iron ore mines have voted for protected industrial action in what would be the first strike at a Pilbara mine operator in decades. The Electrical Trades Union blamed BHP for refusing to negotiate a single point of a proposed agreement over more than 12 months. The Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA labelled the vote a “dangerous turn for the Pilbara,” warning it risks sending a damaging signal to global investors at a critical time for Australia’s energy exports.
