Nordic Resources (ASX: NNL) is an Australian-listed explorer rapidly building a large gold position in Finland, Europe’s highest-ranked mining jurisdiction. Its flagship Kopsa gold-copper project and the adjacent Kiimala Trend and Hirsikangas projects sit in the Middle Ostrobothnia gold belt, where 10km of shallow step-out drilling over the last 12 months has extended mineralisation 30 to 150 metres beyond the current resource boundary on multiple flanks and returned the highest gold grade recorded at Kopsa – 71m at 3.04 g/t AuEq from 207m, including 1.2m at 105.5 g/t Au.
Finland is home to Europe’s largest gold mine, operated by Agnico-Eagle. Rupert Resources’ Ikkari project (4.2Moz @ 2.1g/t Au) in Finland was recently acquired by Agnico for A$3.1Bn. The Middle Ostrobothnia region benefits from Finland’s excellent rail and road infrastructure and two existing processing plants that remain structurally short of feed.
A 12,000 metre, two-rig diamond campaign commenced in August and runs through December, which the company expects to more than double the metres it has ever drilled across these projects. An interim Kopsa resource update is due in the coming weeks based on the initial 10km of drilling.
